Description
AppData? is an emerging standard (hopefully not distro-specific) for the description of applications in various app stores.
http://people.freedesktop.org/~hughsient/appdata/ is the home page of
the standard.
http://blogs.gnome.org/hughsie/2013/09/27/frikin-awesome-apps-without-appdata/
is the call for providing new appdata.xml files.

We can include it into tarball though I'm not sure how to install it, I tried three different distros and not single one had proposed /usr/share/appdata. We might let it only in tarball ATM.
Secondly you agreed that all your contribution to this project can be licensed as GPL while this file states CC0. Can we change it?

This is just being included into Fedora 21 as the first distro, so it is nowhere else yet. But I don't think it should do any harm to anybody, even if it takes a bit time before the use of this file spreads.

Yes, whichever side you want it. I really don't care about this file much. Make it GPL or CC0. Whatever.

In this case we can simply include it in the tarball and leave the responsibility to install this file (or not) to the distro packagers.
However, I understand that there's more work to be done in order to localize this file.

This is in FAQ:
If you ship an .xml.in file rather than an .xml file, you can use intltool to translate the data. You can also use itstool to translate the data, and we've provided a appdata.its file for convenience.

IMHO this patch would be sufficient for 2.1. Vincent?

I put the file into the tarball, we shouldn't perhaps mark this as fixed though I'm sceptic anyone will work on this in future.

Pavel what is the status of this? Why did your commit not fix this bug? Anything we want to do for 2.2.0?
comment:13 follow-up: ↓ 14 Changed 2 years ago by sanda
File is part of tarball. What's missing are installation rules in makefile which would install it into proper directory and allow translation. First should be easy fix, second might need messing up with our
translation machinery. I checked that /usr/share/appdata is present in newer distros so the time is ripe for this change. That said I have no time to play with this ;)

I'm not planning to work on this either. Is anyone else? Otherwise I will retarget.

- Milestone 2.2.0 deleted
I do not see anyone with plans to fix the rest of this bug so I'm taking off the 2.2.0 milestone.
